I ask you now to consider a new vision: a prayer chapel. I ask you to consider an expanded opportunity for prayer and contemplation, worship and education, invitation and mission, on our campus. It would be a new chapel, but not a chapel designed in our (now) traditional, rectangular way. It would be a rounder holy space, in octagonal form, welcoming us to common prayer that would develop our community in an expansive way.

We love the Cathedral of St. Philip. Coming from various backgrounds and with different histories here, we have seen the Cathedral parish change over time. Some of us have watched it grow from an intimate, shingled structure with the even cozier Mikell Chapel to the magnificent Nave in place today. Others of us joined more recently, in the time since the last capital campaign in the early 2000s, and look forward to doing our part to strengthen the Cathedral further.

Construction Update: April 2, 2025
In the past month, the main level and balcony level steel has been erected—including the window arches and framing! Foundation and basement wall waterproofing has also been completed and much of the decking has been installed on the main level. Behind the scenes, new boilers have been delivered and production of the oculus has commenced.
In the coming month, steel work will continue. Additional grading will take place and masonry on the foundation walls will also begin.

Construction Update: March 1, 2025
Since our last update, crews have poured a lot of concrete! Footers, basement walls, and slabs on grade are now in place, and the octagonal form of the building is visible. Mechanical tunnels to the existing building have been laid and interior demolition is nearing completion.

In the coming month, our contractor Holder Construction will begin erecting steel to frame the chapel. Next week, a mobile crane will arrive on site. The crane will remain parked for several months; it will be raised at the beginning of each workday and lowered each evening.
